Governor
Rauf Aregbesola has approved the appointment of Prof. Adekunle Okesina
as the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Osogbo.
Okesina, a professor of Chemical
Pathology, was chosen by Aregbesola from the list of three candidates
shortlisted by the Prof. Gabriel Olawoyin-led governing council, making
him the second VC of the institution.
Confirming the appointment, the Senior
Assistant Registrar, UNIOSUN, Mr. Marcus Awobifa, in an e-mail on
Monday, stated that Okesina, born October 11, 1954, beat Prof. Oladiran
Famurewa – a Prof of Microbiology, Prof Bashir Okesina, and Prof Funmi
Togonu-Bickersteth to clinch the post vacated by Prof. Sola Akinrinade
in July, last year.
Okesina, who is the youngest of the
three shortlisted candidates, hails from Okuku town in Odo-Otin Local
Government Council of the state. Inside sources said he clinched the
post as a result of his age, which is in line with the UNIOSUN 2003
Establishment Law. |
