The Medical Laboratory Science Council
of Nigeria has denied three universities and two colleges of technology
accreditation to run programmes in Medical Laboratory Science.
The five institutions have therefore been de-accredited with immediate effect.
Among them are Ambrose Alli University,
Ekpoma, in Edo State; Rivers State University of Science and Technology,
in Port Harcourt and Babcock University, in Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State.
Vice-Chancellor, National Open
University of Nigeria, Prof. Vincent Tenebe, has said that until the
Federal Government solve the problem of education, the security
challenges bedeviling the country will not abate.
The VC noted that the various crises in
the land were as result of ignorance and illiteracy, which the open
university with its flexibility of operation had come to solve.
Urging Nigerians to take the opportunity
of the system to acquire more knowledge, Tenebe, a professor of
Agriculture, added that the enrollment figure of the university had hit
132,000 and that in the next five years , "my dream is to hit 1.5
million students enrolment.”
The Chancellor, Salem University, Lokoja, Kogi State, Archbishop Sam
Amaga, has said that the institution is more determined than ever before
to continue the production of globally competitive graduates. He also
said that faith-based private universities held the key to the academic,
intellectual and leadership development of the country.
Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Tai Solarin University of Education,
Ijagun, Ogun State, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade spoke with journalists on

react to the allegation that Tai Solarin University of Education has
deviated from its focus of training the trainers by running courses
outside education discipline?
Governor Rauf Aregbesola has approved the appointment of Prof. Adekunle
Okesina as the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Osogbo.
Okesina, a professor of Chemical Pathology, was chosen by Aregbesola
from the list of three candidates shortlisted by the Prof. Gabriel
Olawoyin-led governing council, making him the second VC of the
institution.
The
National President, Ibadan Grammar School, Prof. Charles Aworh, has said
the standard of education will continue to fall until schools are
returned to missionaries.
Aworh said this on Thursday during a
press conference marking the centenary anniversary of Ibadan Grammar
School at the school auditorium.
He noted that the last 40 years had witnessed continuous decline in infrastructure, teaching and learning environment.
He stressed, "The takeover of schools by
government and the resultant problems of poor funding and retrogressive
government policies are inimical to the delivery of quality education.”
He said if schools were returned to the
original owners, it would not only address the problem of decay in
education but would also ensure sustainability.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state has been urged to make the Ibadan
North Local Government skill acquisition centre located at Yemetu
Aladorin a diploma awarding institution. The caretaker committee
Chairman of Ibadan North Local government Hon. Idris Lapade charged the
Oyo state government and the state house of assembly to make a law that
will make the centre a diploma awarding institution during the
presentation of certificates, presentation of equipments to outstanding
students and graduation ceremony of 207 graduants of the centre on
Friday 11th May 2012.
