Rev Promise Uche Nwode (Deaf)
At IMSD teaching our students is a joy and a living thrill. Our teachers teach innovatively as they rejoice at the wonderful privilege of sharing their academic knowledge and experience with their students. Our students are exposed to intellectual and practical academic experience that leads to productive work, academic excellence leading to the award of First School Leaving Certificate (elementary school); Junior Secondary School Certificate and SSCE/WAEC/NECO Senior School Certificate (secondary School). Our system also leads our deaf students to develop healthy self-esteem, good morality, honest and selfless service, personal development and satisfaction. As a strong community of excellence, we do not and cannot tolerate any form of cheating or dishonest work.
Comments by Head Teacher/Principal
IMSD is open and committed to networking and partnering with institutions, schools and organisations offering educational, health and welfare services to deaf children. We solicit for sponsors and philanthropists who are interested in sponsoring our indigent students through elementary and/or secondary school. We are interested in networking and partnering in the areas of information dissemination, capacity building, and programmes exchange and personnel development.
Polytechnic and university graduates going out from their institutions to begin their one-year compulsory Nigeria Youths Service Corps (NYSC) programme are welcome as interns to associate with our deaf students and teach them. This will be an opportunity for some of them to learn Sign Language, understand the deaf, and eventually feel called to serve among the deaf. Education students on IT (Industrial Training) and TP(Teaching Practice) are also warmly accepted.
Deaf people in Europe interested in doing research works on the deaf and/or reaching out to the Third World deaf people in the area of education should let us know their interest in partnering with us. We are in the right position to provide reliable guidance/information on all deaf schools and the socio-economic and political situation of the deaf in Southern Nigeria. They can use our school as their base/centre from where to begin to their work—visiting neighbouring deaf schools and planning programs for them.

We salute and celebrate the courage of Promise Uche Nwode in taking a bold and rare step in establishing this school. Education is a right for all no matter one’s state and circumstances. Deny a child access to education and you deny him access to life. The International Model School for the Deaf is here to stay. Do you have or know someone who is hearing impaired. It is a life challenge and not a sickness nor disease. Never and do not condemn them to a state of helplessness. They can live full lives and become whatever every other person desires and dreams to become. Send them to this school. Better still; support this school through your widow’s donations.
